6.5.4 Headache attributed to intracranial endovascular procedures G44.810  

Diagnostic criteria:

  1. Unilateral severe localised headache of abrupt onset and fulfilling criteria C and D
  2. Intracranial angioplasty or embolisation has been performed
  3. Headache develops within seconds of the procedure
  4. Headache resolves within 24 hours after the end of the procedure

Comment:

A very specific subtype of headache has been reported after balloon inflation or embolisation of an AVM or aneurysm. It is a severe pain of abrupt onset, localised in specific areas according to the artery involved, occurring within a few seconds of the procedure and disappearing rapidly.
